The Christian community
including Hillsong's matriarch Darlene Zschech, popular author and preacher
Tony Evans, successor to Mark Driscoll Dave Bruskas and countless others offer
their prayers and support to the victims of the Marysville shooting. Last
Friday, students and staff were evacuated from the Marysville-Pilchuck High
School near Seattle in the western state of Washington, after one of its
students, identified as Jaylen Fryberg, entered the school cafeteria and began
shooting just before 10:30am (local time).
The shooter, a
homecoming prince at the school, used a handgun to kill one of the students and
wound four others before fatally shooting himself. The shooter was Jaylen
Fryberg a popular member of both the wrestling and football teams.
Three of the wounded are
in a critical condition with gunshot wounds to the head and are undergoing
surgery, chief of medicine at Providence Regional Medical Centre, Joanne
Roberts said. The fourth victim suffered less serious injuries and had
been transferred to another hospital.
Rebecca Cooley, whose
son played sports with Fryberg and was approaching the cafeteria when the
shooting erupted, said an altercation broke out on an athletic field following
football practice in recent days and that one boy involved was among those
shot.
Over social media, the
Christian community is reaching out through prayers and support. Darlene
Zschech, who has fronted Hillsong's Worship albums for years and who has penned
songs for the megachurch such as "Shout to the Lord" and "Worthy
is the Lamb" writes on Twitter: "Praying for all family and friends
suffering due to recent shootings in the USA xx lost for adequate words."
Dave Bruskas who was
recently appointed Interim Preaching Pastor at
Mars Hill Church after the infamous resignation of Mark Driscoll took time to offer these words: "Praying for all those hurting in Marysville today."
